Welcome to the Urban Archaeology blog. Chiz Harward provides a range of archaeological services including desk-based assessments, evaluations, excavations, watching briefs and post-excavation services, training and development work, and archaeological illustration. This weblog will carry news of projects as and when they happen as well as wider thoughts on archaeological issues, especially recording, stratigraphy and training.

FAME Forum and Diggers' Forum/Prospect conferences

Last weekend Chiz spoke at two conferences in as many days: the FAME Forum which was themed on skills and employability, and the Diggers' Forum/Prospect conference on careers, both in York. Chiz gave an updated version of the training and reskilling paper he presented at Winchester at both sessions, as well as a short presentation on the Diggers' Forum survey on away work and travel.

The DF/Prospect conference was a great success with a varied audience of students and professionals who heard some excellent papers leading to a lot of generally positive and lively discussion. Abstracts of the papers can be read at http://www.prospect.org.uk/members_areas/branch/181/public/p4
and we will look into whether we can publish the papers in some form, preferably online.

The FAME Forum was less lively than the DF/Prospect conference, but hopefully the paper gave the delegates something to think on. A summary of the FAME paper will be published on the FAME website soon, along with the other presentations which will be well worth a read. The full version of the training paper will be published in the 21st Century Archaeologists monograph.
