'Your Church Newly Built...' a History of the Church of the Holy Trinity, Minchinhampton, Gloucestershire, has been reviewed in Medieval Archaeology 69 by Matthew Champion.
Following on from extensive archaeological work by Urban Archaeology, the book charts the development of the church of the Holy Trinity, Minchinhampton over the centuries. It weaves evidence drawn from the standing remains, archaeological excavations and documentary sources including churchwardens’ accounts, eyewitness records, illustrations and plans. ‘Your church newly built…’ is the story of a Cotswold church, but also of the church in England, and how the building that lies at the heart of each parish reflects the history of its people, their beliefs, and their ambitions.
"...The author and contributors are to be congratulated for bringing together such a mass of detailed information from such a wide range of sources and presenting it in such a clear and accessible manner. It is not difficult to recommend this work to anyone with an interest in church archaeology and architecture. What perhaps makes it of even more value is the way in which it balances the use of such diverse source material to create a micro-study of one building that sheds light on so many different aspects of both parish and Church history."
